Bitfury, a giant bitcoin company, got the green signal from the government of Norway to set up a new bitcoin mining datacenter there. Norway government is happy to see this large investment as it will create new jobs for the citizens of Norway.
The datacenter is being set up in the town of Mo I Rana in Northern Norway. Approximately 274 million NOK (around 35 million USD) is being introduced by Bitfury to open the mining datacenter. It is expected that the company will generate about 30 jobs for local residents at the initial stage.
During the welcome of Bitfury, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen, Minister of Trade and Industry in Norway, said:
“I am delighted that the Bitfury Group has chosen to establish their new data center in Norway and Mo I Rana…. This represents a major economic opportunity for Norwegian businesses. The datacenter industry is growing fast and provides Norway with opportunities of economic growth and new jobs.”
According to Bitfury, the datacenter will consume power lower than a power usage effectiveness of 1.05. To run this mining datacenter, 350 Gigawatt hours (GWh) is being purchased by Bitfury from a local power merchant.
Bitfury is getting a suitable atmosphere like the colder temperature, easily accessible of renewable energy and pleasant tax rules to run mining datacenter in Norway.
In New York, crypto mining companies will have to pay higher tariffs to local power suppliers as per public utility regulator. On the other hand, Norway government is showing positive attitude toward crypto firms. They want more crypto investment in Norway to generate more jobs for their citizens, while others are bringing tough rules for crypto world.
“It has been important for us to facilitate the opening of more data centers in Norway,” he added, in quotes reported by Norwegian state-owned publication NRK. “We have green power, so this can create jobs and investments in new technology.”
