In order to save yourself from dengue infection, you would have to understand how it occurs and spreads. Dengue is spread when a dengue infected Aedes mosquito bite a person. And these mosquitoes get infected when they bite dengue infected people. Dengue mainly occurs in tropical regions of the world which include Southeast Asia, Southern China, The Indian subcontinent, Taiwan, Mexico, The Pacific Islands, The Caribbean (except Cuba and the Cayman Islands), Africa, Central and South America (except Chile, Paraguay, and Argentian).

Millions of people get infected by dengue virus every year. So it is very important to prevent mosquito breeding as there is no specific medicine to cure dengue. You can take several steps to keep away mosquitoes from your home.

1. You must destroy the things that can breed mosquitoes such as old tires, cans or flower pots. These things collect water from rain which later causes the breeding of mosquitoes.

2. People living in highly populated area may easily get infected by dengue virus. But it is not possible for everyone to change the living area. So they should choose other options to save themselves from mosquitoes.

3. Many people use mosquito repellents. You can also use it.

4. Many people suggest wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants while going outside so that mosquitoes couldn’t easily bite them. But what do you think for short distance? We generally wear T-shirt and half pant.

5. When you are in home, you should use air condition. But there are several people who don’t have air condition as they can’t afford its cost. However people can use mosquito nets which are affordable for everyone.

6. In my opinion, the best option to save you from mosquito bite is the prevention of their breeding. So remove the things that store water which you don’t use for work in or around your home.

How can you identify Dengue Fever?

Initially, it is very difficult to detect the symptoms of dengue fever, because it starts four to six days after infection and continue for 10 days. It causes several symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, pain behind the eyes, terrible joint and muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, tiredness and the most important symptoms  of dengue is skin rash and mild bleeding. Skin rash can occur two to five days after the beginning of fever. The most problem is that people mistake to detect the symptoms of dengue fever as it looks like flu or another viral infection.

What is the treatment for Dengue Fever?

In my opinion, people shouldn’t wait for three or four days after fever starts as the situation may worsen. You should immediately consult a doctor to know the reasons of high fever. The symptoms that I have mentioned above are not enough to detect dengue infection, it needs a blood test to confirm it. However, there is no specific treatment for dengue, doctors prescribe some medicines to control fever and pain. The most effective treatment for dengue is to drink plenty of water. In case of dengue, platelet count goes below its normal range which basically worsens the condition of a patient. You will have to drink huge amount of fluids to increase platelet count to treat dengue infection.

This article is only for educational purpose. So, you must consult a doctor if you are suffering from high fever or dengue infection.
