Most travelers in summer want to go to hill station to protect them from scorching heat. These places are perfect to relax. There are several hill stations, but Dras is awesome and popular hill station in India. It is a town in Kargil District of Jammu & Kashmir. If you’r planning to visit a hill station and you are presently living in India, Dras can be a perfect traveling spot for you.
If you don’t have any health issue that can be triggered by cold, you can go to visit Dras because it is known as ‘the second coldest place’ in the world and ‘the coldest hill station’ in India where people live and spend their life. Health issues like asthma, a chronic health condition that gets triggered by cold. However I don’t know whether any asthmatic visits hill station, this is only my suggestion for the patient with COPD. Sorry, this is not a health article, so I am going to talk on Dras which is also known as the Gateway to Ladakh. It provides you crowd free place that you experience in city life.
Dras is very small town and low populated area which lies in Kargil District at an altitude of 3230 m above the sea level. The temperature during winters are recorded nearly -45 degree celcius which is enough to freeze anything. Now you can understand why I suggested people who live in city to avoid visiting this coldest place if they have any health issues that get trigged by cold. This is mainly for asthmatics.
People of Dras are not familiar to materialistic world because this is a rural area and located far from a city. You can relax and enjoy its scenic views of mountains and clear sky. You can see clear sky in city also, but it is difficult to view mountains. In hill station you can easily have both views.
Last but not the least, I would like to draw your attention to the Kargil War Memorial which is structured in the foothills of the Tololing Hill in Dras region. It is a symbol of victory over terrorism. The construction was made in the memory of those soldiers who sacrificed their precious life to kill terrorists who had captured Kargil illegally. The war was held in 1999 between India and Pakistan. So you have two reasons to visit this place – Kargil War Memorial and hill station.
