You are probably well acquainted with the Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium. It was established in 1864 in the Indian city of Kolkata. Eden Gardens is the second largest cricket stadium in India while it is known as the third largest cricket stadium in the whole world.
Today we will try to know why this stadium is called Eden Gardens. There is a very old park adjacent to the stadium which was constructed in 1841 and was named after the Eden sisters of Lord Auckland who was the then Governor-General of India,
Initially this park was known as Auckland Circus Gardens but later its creators changed its name to Eden Gardens. He did so inspired by Garden of Eden in the Bible. The stadium has been named Eden Gardens after this park.
I have gone inside the Eden Gardens stadium twice with my friends to watch cricket. I didn't have a camera at that time so I couldn't take photos. The stadium has been temporarily closed for the time being.
All photographs are original and taken be me.
