Google’s high-tech data center in Berkeley County, South Carolina

Google has multiple high-tech datacenters all over the world and one of them exists in Berkeley County which was planned to establish in 2007 and then they decided to increase their investment up to $1.2 billion in 2013 so that they can enlarge the datacenter. Google’s datacenter employed more than 150 local people to help their communities grow.

There are many local schools and nonprofit organizations that got huge financial support over $1.9 million from Google Inc. Wi-Fi network is also established by Google in Goose Creek city located in southeastern South Carolina. This service is absolutely free for city people. Google organized Googlefest in June 2012 to provide support to small scale and nonprofit organizations and during the fest they could learn how to use Google tools.

These ethernet switches connect our facilities network. Thanks to them, we are able to communicate with and monitor our main controls for the cooling system in our data center.

In case anything should happen to our data, we have it all backed up. One of the places we back up information is here in our tape library. Robotic arms (visible at the end of the aisle) assist us in loading and unloading tapes when we need to access them.

This is a closer view of the backup tapes in our tape library. Each tape has a unique barcode so our robotic system can locate the right one.

Storage tanks like these can hold up to 240,000 gallons (900,000 liters) of water at any given time. This insulated tank holds water that we'll send to the heart of the data center for cooling.
