I hope you know firefox zero-day bug which enabled hackers to phish Coinbase staff with emails. Emails sent by hackers contained malicious links carrying malware to infect the system and take passwords and other sensitive data stored in browser. However, it was only possible if the links were opened using Firefox browser.

Selena Deckelmann, senior director for Firefox browser engineering, previously told Hard Fork: “On Monday, June 17, 2019, Coinbase reported a vulnerability used as part of targeted attacks for a spear phishing campaign. In less than 24 hours, we released a fix for the exploit.”

Firefox updated its version to 67.0.4 which fixed “zero-day” vulnerability for a second time. So Firefox users must update their browsers immediately to prevent hackers to exploit the flaw.

It is difficult to say how the hackers found the bug, but their intention was to penetrate the backend network of Coinbase to siphon all cryptocurrencies from the exchange’s wallet. However, the employees of Coinbase successfully prevented them from entering their network. According to Coinbase’s staff, they had become late to detect the attack.
