A research released in the journal Geophysical Research Letters revealed that Mercury may have huge amount of ice on its surface where Sun’s scorching rays are not able to reach. An evidence of three craters are discovered on the north pole of Mercury which have huge deposits of ice and are also protecting them from sun’s intense rays.
Ariel Deutsch said,
“The assumption has been that surface ice on Mercury exists predominantly in large craters, but we show evidence for these smaller-scale deposits as well."
He further added,
"Adding these small-scale deposits to the large deposits within craters adds significantly to the surface ice inventory on Mercury."
