This is the sculpture of Swami Vivekananda made in front of a Metro Station in Kolkata. I took the photograph two days ago when I was passing by the sculpture. I don’t remember though, I have read about him in history book. He was born on Jan 12, 1863, in a Bengali family who were living at 3 Gourmohan Mukherjee Road, in Kolkata, previously called Calcutta. Formally he was named Narendranath Dutta or Narendra or Naren. His father’s name was Vishwanath Dutta. He was a laywer by profession and used to practice at the Calcutta High Court. Vivekanand’s mother, Bhubaneswari devi, was a housewife but had deep relious feeling.
Like mother, Swami Vivekananda or Narendranath was also religious and started meditation before the images of God and Goddess. Later he became a hindu monk in India and established the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga across the Western World. Being a chief disciple of Ramakrishna, Vivekananda established Ramakrishna Math and Ramkrishna Mission.
There is a Ramakrishna Mission school in Kolkata which helps people learn languages of different countries. I have also learnt english language from there. However, many foreigners come and join the school to learn different languages such as Hindi, French, Chinese, Bengali and many more.
