The South Kaibab Trail is very popular as a hiking trail which lies in Grand Canyon National Park. It is situated in Arizona, United States of America. A long narrow hilltop connects the South Kaibab Trail with Skeleton Point to have 360-degree views of the canyon.
You can reach the trailhead for the South Kaibab Trail through the Rim Trail or you can use the free Grand Canyon National Park shuttle bus. There is a place called the South Rim near Yaki Point which is the starting point of the trail. Hikers start from here and goes down to the Colorado River. The altitude of the trail changes when you move from rim to river. The length of descent trail is 6.3 mile (10.1 km.).
Grand Canyon National Park provides a regular maintenance to the South Kaibab Trail as it is designated as a corridor trail. And park rangers give the protection. You will get water nowhere while traveling along the South Kaibab Trail. However you can get water in all restrooms located at the trailhead. Water is also found on the north part of the Colorado River. Only the Bright Angel Campground and Phantom Ranch provide treated water that you can drink. The water received from natural resources need to be filtered, boiled or treated so that it can be consumed.
The Bright Angel Campground is the only place where hikers can spend their whole night. The permission to stay there is granted by the Grand Canyon National Park Backcountry Information Center. The Campground doesn’t allow wood and charcoal fires. However they allow stoves.
