Gardens by the Bay located near the Marina Reservoir in central Singapore is also known as nature park. The park covers up to 101 hectares of landfill in which three waterfront gardens – Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden are established. Bay South Garden covering 54 hectares of the park is the biggest gardens among them.
To improve quality of life, Singapore government planned to grow more plants and flowers in the city so that Singapore can be converted from a “Garden City” to a “City in a Garden”.
This strategy was first declared by the Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong in 2005. Their aim was to make best recreation space in the city where people can enjoy their holiday.
An international competition was hosted in 2006 to select the best company for designing the park. In this competition, 170 companies from 24 countries participated and over 70 entries were sent by them. They selected two British companies named Grant Associates and Dominic White among them to design the Bay South and Bay East Gardens respectively.
