Before we discuss on World Asthma Day, I would like to let you know that I am an asthmatic and I know how painful it is. I have been suffering from asthma last 6 years and it may continue for whole life. So everyone should know how asthma gets triggered and how it affects someone’s life. That’s why World Asthma day is celebrated every year. The campaign was started on the first Tuesday of May which this year accidently falls on 1st May. The objective of World Asthma Day is to spread awareness about the severity of asthma. This campaign also educates people how to control the asthma attack when it gets aggravated. There are several medicines that worked immediately like different types of inhaler. There are two types inhaler – one provides immediate relief from attack and second prevents the attack. When inhaler stops working, one should take nebulizer for immediate relief.
What is Asthma?
In case of asthma, the airways of the human gets inflamed or narrowed which obstructs normal air flow to the alveoli. There may be several reasons that trigger this condition. Some of them are allergen, exercise or stress, and cold air. I would like to mention one more reason that is hot air. Asthma can also be triggered in summer season. No one knows why the airways get narrowed when hot air passes through it. There are various symptoms found in an asthmatic such as coughing, wheezing, feeling of chest tightness and shortness of breath.
People shouldn’t take asthma lightly
People shouldn’t avoid asthma condition as it may ruin their life. You must consult a pulmonologist if you are experiencing this condition as it can be easily prevented if the treatment starts on early stage. A small mistake can be a dangerous one. An asthmatic must carry inhaler with him; otherwise he or she may face experience chronic asthma attack.
Several things that aggravate asthma condition
There are several reasons that can make asthma condition worse such as dust, pollens, hard labor or exercise, exposure to chemicals, stress, extremely cold condition, the patients who have Sinusitis and certain foods including Gastroesophageal Reflux. Some people have food allergy that may trigger asthma and some of them have Gastroesophageal Reflux problem that is also known as the possible reason of asthma condition. But every doctor has different viewpoint about Gastroesophageal Reflux. When I asked my doctor about it, he said GERD doesn’t trigger asthma.
How to diagnose asthma?
Asthma can be diagnosed with Spirometry which is a simple air blowing test to measure lungs capacity and function.

There is a special blood test called Arterial Blood Gases that reveal blood oxygen and carbon dioxide. This blood test may be required in severe condition. Sheet anchor of therapy is used to diminish inflammation and open airways to make air flow normal. It is an inhaled medication through which microgram dose is sent to the site where the problem exists. In many cases, patients with severe asthma don’t respond medicine. In this condition, they are treated with new medicines called Omalizumab and Benralizumab.
The patients suffering with asthma must consult a doctor to prevent it from being more harmful. Once you consult a doctor, you will be able to manage your asthma symptoms. As asthma is a long-term respiratory condition, it may need long-term treatment. So you first consult a doctor. You should know the things that trigger asthma and keep yourself away from them. You should always consult the doctor with your updated condition so that asthma could be controlled.
